"Good Bye August"

Dear Blog,

Henry started kindergarten today...next year...he tells me that he will be a big kid because he can go to first grade like the other big kids. Jordan doesn't start back until next week...he's a real big kid now. Kids always want to be just a bit bigger...a bit older. I know I always did and every school year helps kids mark their growth. So exciting to be a kid with all the new things to look forward to.

Mothers in Minnesota are doing cart-wheels after they watch their kids get on the old yellow school bus. Summer is over and life is good again...or at least semi-normal. The moms that are lucky enough to work at home can linger over a cup of coffee and have a few quiet minutes to their self.

Goodbye August 2011 and welcome to September 2011 and to fall and to cooler weather and to funny faced pumpkins.  And good luck to all of the kids that are heading back to school.

Bye Blog, JjB...

Sweet Jolie - today is 111, not a good way to start September! I think of a couple of warm weeks followed by crisp days and early autumn leaves - we'll have hot weather until November. I grew up outside NYC in the Catskills. lived in New Hampshire and Maine - all good states for September! I saw it as a month of new beginnings - first day of school, the smell of new notebooks and sharpened pencils. maybe new clothes.

My grandson starts kindergarten next week; granddaughter starts second grade. Their mother has prepared them well, they're ready and eager. They are still living in a motel after their move - it must be quite crowded - and they are in upstate NY where there was some flooding.

I am getting a bit stronger although no appetite. Nothing tastes "right," except really, really strong flavors. My husband will only leave the house if I promise to stay put - he's afraid I'll fall over! My confidence is returning faster than his!

Tonight, here on PBS is "New Tricks." It is a cute series and the theme song always makes me get up and dance (hospital stay excluded). I also watch "Doc Martin" tonight for Stephanie Cole.

Take care, my friend, and enjoy the new month! Good wishes to the grandchildren as they go off to school!

I'm glad as heck that the kids are going back to school. Time for a little vacation, I say.
